July 21, 2020 - From a half bottle. This is interesting. There's a substantial depth of flavour, though it has a lot of acidity. In some ways it's suggestive of a madeira or port, but without the sweetness or fortification. A lot of oak, some oxidised notes, along with strawberry and vanilla. There also seems to be a hint of TCA in the bottle, detectable as a kind of damp musty cellar note, which becomes more insistent after a couple of hours, but it doesn't ruin the experience.

7/22/20, 4:31 AM - Thanks for the note. I have some of the 2007 which I haven't drunk yet. It does sound like it might have been faulty, normally Tondonia isn't like madeira or port, or particularly oaky to taste. I'll report on how mine is when I get round to it!

7/22/20, 6:52 AM - I have a second half bottle, I'll compare and contrast when I get around to it. It was still tasty, just this musty / wet limestone note poked itself in in the middle. The resemblance to (Bual, maybe) madeira was like a rhyme, not actually tasting like one. A twist of flavour at the end.

I've never drunk a reserva rioja that wasn't oaky, barrel aging is a hallmark of the style and thus its flavour profile, to my tongue. We may be assigning different flavours to oak influence though.
