Community Tasting Note

July 15, 2020 - Napa Tasting (Bistro Cocotte, Haberfield): Ripe blackcurrant and cherry initially with a little sweet spice and vanilla, cedar also a slightly oxidised note. With time it' starts to show volatility as well. this is reflected on the palate - a wine that initially shows fresh with similar crunchy black fruits backed by chalky drying tannins gets more and more sour and undrinkable. I've not witnessed such a rapid descent into flawdom before. How sad.

Of course, it's Santa Cruz Mountains, not Napa, and you should expect more acidity than you'd find in a Napa Wine (pH 3.4 vs pH >3.8) but nothing like what you describe.

Moonie, I'd be sorely tempted to just get in touch with Ridge - most wineries are pretty good about bad bottle replacements...
