August 14, 2020 - Syrah (90%) and Grenache (10%) from lieu-dit 'La Roche Coucourde' near the village of Faucon in Vaucluse - a vineyard fairly high in altitude on the western foothills of Mont Ventoux. A zero-zero wine, aged in used barrels. The nose displays the carnal or animalistic side of Syrah, with a bit of barnyard thrown in for good measure, but also some beautiful violets, blackberries and black cherries over an earthy backdrop. The palate is full-bodied with a solid tannin structure and excellent stuffing of extract without coming across as extracted, alcohol slightly above average, and a surprisingly mineral-driven freshness in the warm vintage. Cellar prospects look promising - it will be interesting to follow this over the next five to seven. (Disclaimer: ITB with Swedish importer Vin & Natur)
