September 7, 2020 - Brought to A_M's socially distanced, wine, food and friends shindig last night by one of his wine loving friends, which delighted me since I'd been dying to try one of these. Opened for some time before consumption, but I don't know for how long. On the nose and palate, potent dark fruit, cassis, herbs and spices, olives, coffee, bitter chocolate, smoke and wet earth. Midnight purple black, full bodied, legs like tree trunks. Light acidity, medium tannins, and some heat, more on the nose than palate, but present for both, which integrated over time but never went completely away. Intense and persistent, with moderate+ complexity. So, of the 3 high end syrahs I've had in the past few weeks, this wasn't as balanced as the Araujo nor as fresh as the Keplinger, but it was tremendously potent, screaming not so much Southern Rhone as California all the way, both for better and worse. It would also benefit, IMO, from a bit more acidity, which would give this just a bit more lift and freshness and some more contrast with its most powerful elements. That said, I like this a lot, and the savory balanced the sweet, and it worked well with the ribeye, but I think it needed more air, or even better, more time, and perhaps more critically, on this steamy SF night, this likely wasn't the most complementary choice. That said, I'd be excited to try other Andremily wines with a bit more bottle age, just preferably on a cooler night. 93+
