September 25, 2020 - Similar to last year's note. A redder fruit profile, with tobacco and spice adding interest. Still advisable to wait another couple years on these.

9/26/20, 10:13 AM - Always makes me feel good to see you drinking the blood of Jove. I have to get my hands on this bottling, although the price is always steep (I need to tell myself I shouldn't be comparing it to Chianti but rather Flaccinello or a really good BdM). On which point I still haven't given up on making you a BdM drinker when this damned virus is over . . .

9/26/20, 4:10 PM - I found this wine at Costco for $48 and bought what they had left (which was only like 5 or 6 or something). It’s “worth” $90, but I selfishly don’t want to pay it for any more since I got the previous deal.

Open mind over here for BdM. Always look forward to learning/trying more.

6/21/21, 10:37 AM - Costco SF has the '16 for $84.99 (which I note slyly is the dyslexic equivalent of what you paid for the '15). As amazing as the '15 is, I couldn't pull the trigger at that price, since I've been buying '15 and '16 BdMs and unclassified sangios, most notably the sister wine, Flaccinello, like they're going to disappear, and paying a BdM+ price for a chianti is always hard for me. But my will is weak, so if they have the '16 for the same price next time I'm there, I may have to pick up a bottle or 2!

6/22/21, 1:12 PM - I'll have to check the local Costco as well. Maybe they'll have it at the $49 price again..ha! wishful thinking)

6/22/21, 4:45 PM - Well, if they do, or even close, and you don't buy them out, please let me know, as that could warrant a road trip. My somm friend in Novato tells me that the Novato Costco has the best wine selection of any Costco he's seen anywhere (he even told me that they had Screagles at some point, although I'm under no illusion that they would have been at any price point I'd have considered, even there). More generally, I've noted that prices seem to be rising faster on Italian wines, particularly Super Tuscans, than either their CA or French counterparts, in the past 18-24 months. There are some good bargains on various discount sites and even with the rise I still think that they represent relative value, but the delta seems to be closing. Alas . . .

6/23/21, 7:44 AM - That Costco has a decent selection sometimes. They did have Screagle at one point, but it was a 2011 and still stupidly priced as you’d imagine. ..And provenance is always an issue in a warehouse setting like that. I’ll let you know if I see any deals on the Italians.

6/23/21, 7:53 AM - Thanks, cs. The SF store (SoMa) has the '16 Flac for $155, which is high compared to what this bottling went for a few years ago, but quite low compared to where it is everywhere else (mid $2s). I was lucky to pick up 3 bottles of the '13 for $90@ at Total in Fremont (I had some other business in the S. Bay, so it wasn't a total detour), but finding that for under $100 (or even close to $100) for any semi-decent vintage seems to be a thing of the past, unfortunately.

6/23/21, 8:28 AM - Agreed. I’d love to score some ‘16 but won’t pay even close to the $200+ price point on it.
