Community Tasting Note

October 30, 2020 - In a tasting of Barolos from B. Giacosa, G. Mascarello, A. Conterno, G. Conterno, Roagna, Anselma, and more. Light brown-red. Nose dominated by a sour tone a-la red currant and red cherries, but also with notes of dry wood, licorice and some vanilla. Medium bodied attack, fresh/acid fruit like red currant on the mid palate. Next the quite brutal tannins kick in, overwhelming the fresh fruit. The aftertaste is dry and tannic, with a stinging acidity, and a fruit that seems to be on another track. This is a wine that just isn't joined up. All the single parts are impressive, but the totality is not.

11/24/20, 1:42 PM - What is a "sneaky cork". This was not marked by TCA or anything similar.

11/24/20, 2:00 PM - sneaky cork = very low level of TCA that is not perceivable as you normally think of TCA but it still affects negatively the bottle by drying the palate and flattering the nose, it is quite common unfortunately, also when corks are guaranteed due to a check by a professional
