  October 18, 2020 - Sunday afternoon football with Walter (49'ers vs Patriots). Two hour decant. Served along side the 1989 Sociando-Mallet. violet purple in color. Black currents on the nose. Somewhat muted flavors of dark fruit on the palate. Unlike the 1989, initially this wine seemed closed and a bit chalky, but after 90 minutes, the chalkiness disappeared and this blossomed into something wonderful,. Flavors of blackberries, cocoa, and red licorice. Herbs and cedar in the background. This was the reverse of many of my 1989 vs 1990 Bordeaux tastings where typically the 1990 js immediately great, and the 1989 opens later. Both were very good, but I suspect this 1990 may go another 5-10 years.
