  December 25, 2020 - Kleur: Diep donkerrood met een lichte oranjebruine verkleuring aan de rand. Aroma / bouquet: Vermoedelijk ben ik positief vooringenomen als het om Mouton gaat, mijn wijnliefde begon met een fles Mouton Rothschild 1973. Maar deze '98 Mouton overtuigt vanaf de eerste impressie. Een delicaat maar aangenaam, complex en verfijnd bouquet. Donker gedroogd fruit, cederhout, specerijen, leer en een vleugje tabak. Smaak / Afdronk: In de mond is deze wijn niet minder overtuigend. Enerzijds boterzacht en fluwelig in de mond, maar anderzijds bieden de fraai gerijpte tannines de wijn structuur en een prettige, subtiel bittere, bite. Mooie balans tussen zuren, tannines, alcohol en vulling. Een buitengewoon lange afdronk. Algemeen / potentieel: Mouton does not change. Ik hoop alle (nog drinkbare) Moutons vanaf 1973 te proeven. Dat is zelden een teleurstelling, vanavond was het een feest! En desondanks heb ik twijfels bij de drinkbaarheidsindicatie van WA, die de wijn als drinkbaar inschat tot 2035. Ik twijfel of deze wijn beter gaat worden en vooral of hij in de komende 15 jaren niet aan overtuigingskracht verliest. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 13 + Smaak / Afdronk: 18 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 95/100
  
  Color: Deep dark red with a slight orange-brown discoloration at the edge. Aroma / bouquet: Presumably I am positively biased when it comes to Mouton, my wine love started with a bottle of Mouton Rothschild 1973. But this '98 Mouton convinces from the first impression. A delicate but pleasant, complex and refined bouquet. Dark dried fruit, cedarwood, spices, leather and a hint of tobacco. Taste / Finish: On the palate, this wine is no less convincing. On the one hand buttery soft and velvety on the palate, but on the other hand the beautifully aged tannins provide the wine with structure and a pleasant, subtly bitter, bite. Nice balance between acids, tannins, alcohol and filling. An exceptionally long finish. General / potential: [/ i] Mouton does not change. I hope to taste all (still drinkable) Moutons from 1973. That is rarely a disappointment, tonight it was a party! And nevertheless I have doubts about WA's drinkability rating, which estimates the wine as drinkable until 2035. I doubt whether this wine will get better and especially whether it will not lose its persuasiveness in the next 15 years. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 13 + Taste / Finish: 18 + General / potential: 9 = 95/100
