February 27, 2021 - Opened, decanted, and consumed over eight hours (it needed a long decant)
Inky dark burgundy with a rusty rim. Full bodied
Iodine, leather, loads of oak at first, which blew off after a few hours.
Very dry, grippy, tannin is still present. Tates like the nose. Wine is still boastful, youngish and brash but coming into itself nicely. Great bones. I will open my next bottle in 18 months or so. Expecting better things. That being said the wine really exceeded itself when paired with some BBQ baby back ribs.2 people found this helpful 1,149 views

I was interested to read you think it needs 8+ hours decant as I thought that as it's had such a long exposure to air in its production it wouldn't need a decant other than to remove any sediment and I find Rioja is often sediment free. -

For this particular bottle, I was specifically told to day-decant by someone who knew the wine. I did have a wee nip on the open, and it was a lot more aggressive than when I finally poured my first glass. There was little to no sediment.
