March 20, 2021 - Good depth of colour that speaks of the power to come. This is drinking really well now, but you need to give it time - 5-6 hours open in bottle minimum. At first it is dominated by what is politely referred to as barnyard but I call a bad day for the plumber. This will blow off after a few hours. Once given some time the nose is still dominated by smoke, tar and roast meat, as well as some underlying sweet plum fruit and some clove.

It smells like a strong wine and in the mouth it delivers. There is a lot more fruit evident in the mouth and it is ripe and succulent. There are also plenty of secondary characters to add complexity. Fresh acid and some firm tannins will allow this to age for a long time. Intense and with good length. This is a really superb Northern Rhone. Drink with roast meats, or other similarly potent, robust dishes. As Paul commented in a sadly neglected part of his Letter to the Colossians "He that loveth not this wine is no Colossian, nor a good fellow."
