March 20, 2021 - medium aged red color, bricked rim, spicy aged cassis nose, bell pepper notes, on the palate an aged savory cherry fruit, a bit dry on the finish, this is my first encounter with the 1985 Latour and while I know it does not enjoy the reputation of Margaux or Mouton- I think this particular bottle was mildly compromised (perhaps light heat damage many years ago), I say this because of the advanced age of the fruit relative to expectations and the slight cracking on the finish, over time it opened and improved nicely proving even this needs several hours in decanter, in the end a lovely and understated Latour- like the 1989- that I would like to revisit again in the hopes there are better bottles out there.

judgement reserved with regards to this particular bottle

3/31/21, 3:01 AM - Thanks for your notes (in general)!
I had Latour 1985 several times (2 mags and 2 bottles) and just once the juice was really great.
They had a lot of cork issues in the mid 80's unfortunately and this ended up with unclean bottles.
I also had 1986, 1988 and 1989 from this period and just the latter was excellent.
    Cheers.
