  April 10, 2021 - One of the unexamined questions about winemaking.
  Each year, thousands of blended Rhone wine are sold and enjoyed, simple or elegant, nuanced or basic, age worthy or not. A taster would encounter some difficulty finding a green, stemmy, bitter bottle in any vintage year.
  California has weather to ripen every varietal, modern equipment, educated wine makers, monied investors yet sells so many flawed wines. One could blame greed, or, conglomerate buyers, or mass market consumers. Quite a unexpected outcome; my recollection of California wines in the 60s and 70s was balance, attempts at elegance, no green stems, no over oaking not over ripeness.
