Hoping this is either an off bottle or in an evolutionary Dumb Phase as it didn't show nearly as well as the first back in 2018. Volatile acidity on the nose and palate day 1, reminding me of the smell of the solution used to dye your hard-boiled Easter eggs various colors. This persisted into day 3 although the effect lessened. Anyone else getting this?

4/28/21, 7:56 AM - I’d suggest it’s in a dumb/evolutionary phase. I’ve found that CdP in general and VD and Beaucastel in particular drink well in the first 3 years after release and then hide until about the 10 year mark.

7/13/21, 9:44 AM - Oechsle noted a subdued phase for the V. Donjon CdP wine. I tried it with Coravin together with a 2016 CdP from Ch. St. Cosme. Nothing wrong with the V. Donjon, just needs to wake up. Give it time. Drink the s. Cosme first, this one starts to come along!

1/8/22, 6:37 AM - I agree that it needs more bottle age. My bottle was astringent at first, but improved after an hour. I think Vieux Donjon shows best (and beautifully) ten years out from the vintage
