May 1, 2021 - Napa - Lokoya - Vice Versa - Memento Mori: The first wine of the flight was their flagship 18’, which now include the infamous VHR site. Notes of blackberries, lavender and baked pie filled the glass. A backend of earth and soil can be coaxed of the glass with some swirling. This will need some time for me and I will probably approach my bottles after the 5 year mark but I would certainly not hesitate to open one up now with a good decant.

Oh darn five years yet to reach its peak or the beginning of its peak if I am reading your note correctly. I will have to open and decant a bottle sooner than that as my health is not the greatest. What do you think—-in two years—two to three hour decant? (I also want to be careful not to over decant it) Dave -

6/25/21, 9:17 AM - Tasting in Napa, I think they had it out for about an hour before served and it was still evolving in the glass, which is how I like them anyways. The nose was gorgeous during the tasting and I wouldn't be scared to open one earlier than the 5 years I stated. It is hard with MM because there isn't a whole lot of old bottles out there and not enough people tasting them older, but given some of the older vintages of MM and some of the TN from them, these have some years to go. I guess the question could really be...are you okay with tasting it at a "95/96" score or are you willing to wait a bit longer to see if it will reach the "98/99" score that critics are touting? I have two bottles to work with so I can easily see myself opening up one a little earlier than 5 (for a special occassion) and then one around 5-10.
