June 3, 2021 - Had two close friends over for steaks and opened a 2009 Insignia and 2009 Caymus for dinner. It was a nice opportunity to compare two wines from the same area. Opened both at 1pm which was 5 hours before dinner. Insignia was definitely the winner, but surprisingly, not by much. Insignia clearly had tobacco as a differentiator, but 12 years of aging on the Caymus was great. The bottles could definitely been opened a few hours earlier also. I believe I have seen notes from others saying the style of Caymus has changed around 2010. This was my last bottle of 2009 and giving them a ton of airtime before drinking has always served me well. Nice wine.
