July 24, 2021 - Vice Versa Wine Dinner: This wine is flat out amazing. It managed to take the best elements of its three parts (TK, Crane and LPV) and showcase them in one place. That is not an easy feat when you’re blending them together, so bravo to Patrice, Philippe and the wine making team.

Gorgeous notes of violets, blackberries, crème de cassis, dark chocolate and forest floor. Super sophisticated on the palate, this takes the expansive power of LPV, the gorgeous purity and flamboyance of Dr Crane plus the focus and structure of TK and magically winds it into a wine that is at once powerful and refined. It gives you all the fruit you could want without ever going over the edge of extraction, and laces in huge levels of minerality and savory character to balance it out and bring sophistication with complexity. As with the other wines in the lineup, the texture is on point and the tannins are so pixilated and fine grained it’s quite amazing. Finishes for over a min. Amazing!

7/27/21, 3:54 PM - Great note here, too. BCellars did this for a couple years with their Becks in the 'Heritage' blend. Thanks!

7/27/21, 8:26 PM - Cristal- can I be insanely jealous and super happy that you guys had such a wonderful experience? Sounds like an amazing night with the VV19s which are absolutely killer! Look forward to tasting these next month.

Awesome notes and impressions as always.

7/27/21, 8:41 PM - Lite: No shame in being jealous of that tasting! It took me a long time to set it up. So nice of Patrice and Sam to fly in for it and send so much incredible wine. We had a good crowd for them, so hopefully it was mutually beneficial. I was really impressed with the quality of these 2019's. One thing that was interesting - Sam wanted them at room temp for about an hour before service, and that really seemed to help them expand and develop.

7/28/21, 5:02 AM - Very interesting indeed- first time I heard that.

7/28/21, 7:15 AM - Out of curiosity…what was room temp? In Texas in July that could mean anything from 70F to 82F. I’m guessing you were on the lower end of that spectrum.

  • Mark1npt commented:

7/28/21, 8:00 AM - I almost always find Cali cabs to do their best at room temp which here in FL is 74-75 deg.

  • MJP Hou TX commented:

7/28/21, 9:55 AM - Daytime temps in the Northeast might have been hotter than Texas and Florida at times. Our July in Houston was very mild. Wet but mild.

Heck, Jackson Hole was pretty damn hot last week but the mountain lakes sure did feel good.

7/28/21, 10:04 AM - Room temp in this part of the world is about 70 degrees. I think that's about right.

7/28/21, 10:24 PM - Ok so here is the $500 question or multiples of $500… so on a island and can only pick one BMF wine is it this, the 2012 Harlan (only one I have), scarecrow or other? Really curious how this stands up in your mind as I have only had, although I do own more, the 2017 Mag 7…

Also I know you are not a Bordeaux guy but I cannot suggest highly enough to grab a 2010 and even ‘18 VIeux Chateau Certan and see what you think. I think it will surprise you.

  • Cristal2000 commented:

7/29/21, 7:41 AM - Lite: That is easy - the Harlan every single time. Amongst the elites, it is the super elite.

Thanks for the BDX info. I may give it a whirl!

7/29/21, 8:15 AM - Damn you and your yummy wines. Will have to do an Abreu vs Harlan showdown as that is my favorite although VCC may beat them all.

  • Cristal2000 commented:

7/29/21, 9:30 AM - I'd definitely take you up on that!

8/14/21, 9:13 AM - Oh boy, what a great tasting dinner! I am glad I backed the truck up (for me anyways) on the 19' VV. I even splurged on some 1.5L etched bottles of this wine and the Crane for my son's birthyear.

I cannot wait for my allocation to arrive.

It is going to be incredibly hard to hold onto.
