August 10, 2021 - Two hour decant. Very deep magenta color. Browned vanilla cream cheese, blackberry, cherries jubilee, almond paste, and subtle graphite on the rich, decadent nose. Smooth, tongue drying palate, with soft, but persistent acidity. Firm, full, lower intensity tannins on the long finish.

This is certainly an easy drinker, but not a value at this price point. It’s so over the top that it comes across as being manipulated. It could also use more complexity. I enjoyed this, but won’t be buying more. I get very critical when paying more than $200/bottle.

8/12/21, 6:58 AM - Forgot to mention. I'm a fan of SW with some bottle age. Do you think this has more potential down the road at less say 2026? Thanks again.

8/12/21, 7:31 AM - I had a ‘15 two months ago and liked it less than this ‘16. I should note that I “liked” both, but there are many better bottles for half the price. My palate is fruit forward, but without extraction, which is a delicate balance. Perhaps Spottswoode only started this more recently (past 5-8 years), sort of like Caymus. I had a ‘95 Caymus in 1998 and it was a serious beast (not extracted at all).
