September 11, 2021 - Under screw cap, note made about an hour after opening, no decant. Using the Cellar Tracker scale I rate this an excellent wine of its type. Don't come to it looking for a Bordeaux style wine - it ain't. This is Barossa first, although it is varietal.

Colour is brick red but more at the red end of that spectrum. Deep in colour.

Nose is a nicely integrated mix of cassis, a hint of warm earth, some supportive oak. On the palate it is the same. It is very long on the finish, gentle but intense, with fine but not fully resolved tannins. The thing I like about Melton is the freshness and good line they have. I don't think I have had a Melton that has been baked, or jammy, or suffered from 'dead' fruit. This is in a great space now and there is no need to cellar further. However, I think it will hold as is for perhaps 3-5 years before starting to decline. A really enjoyable wine of its style.
