Community Tasting Note

September 27, 2021 - Slow oxed for a couple hours (no decant). This did evolve in the glass a fair amount. Served blind, my first thought was 2000 left bank bordeaux. It had cool cassis fruit, a faint bit of pencil lead and old leather, but there was this candied red cherry note and certain richness that had me thinking Opus One or Dominus, so I went with 04 Opus. Should have stuck to my guns. It’s a really fine Leoville, less high tone/nail polish than 99, and only slightly less power than a 2000 tasted last year. I do love LLC

Certainly the old style was stern in comparison to its neighbors, but as someone who is tannin tolerant, I think this house, PB, and PLL are near first growth quality
