October 2, 2021 - Monumentally disappointing, given the pedigree, the vintage, the price, and how long I held this 24-year old (bought on release, maintained in temperature controlled storage, cork and fill in excellent condition). Dark, opaque, light orange brick color at the rim, lacking in Italian character, this was an enjoyable (but not exceptional) international style cabernet blend. 85% cabernet sauvignon, 15% cabernet franc. Uncorked two and a half hours before serving, matched with Lobel's filet mignon, mushrooms, butterball potatoes over 45 minutes, it was well-made, pleasant, not over-extracted or over-oaked, but lacking in complexity or nuance.

10/2/21, 8:26 PM - I had the 98 recently (for my 50th, it was purring... i had this around 2000 and soon after had the'98, I knew the '98 was without question the better wine. didn't think then the '97 was really built for long term cellaring. was great upfront. 5-10 years window?. but i'd give the '98 a try if you come across one...lots to admire there now. cheers :)
