October 3, 2021 - I struggled to work out from the notes below if this needed a short decant or 8-12 hours. So based on the base barolo Roagna I have had from 09 and 10 I decided on: Decanted 2.5 hrs in cellar before drinking but showed best 3.5-4 hours after decanting (last hour in decanter on a cold window sill)
Clearly this wine will last much longer - I knew that before I opened it but this was a taster given the vintage. Drinks wonderfully now… Drink or hold.
Initially not much length or complexity but really began to sing in the glass. Went superbly with steak with truffle butter and rosemary and garlic new potatoes.
Characteristic Roagna delicacy, elegance, balance, rose petals, and tar. Very moreish. Natural, honest and likeable.
Like with others I have had it was a bit of an adventure drinking it - different sips showed different things. Quite beguiling.
Looking at other vintage scores this seems quite unloved!
