November 6, 2021 - It's always amazing to come back to these First Growths, especially when they're showing this good. This was brought over by a guest at Burnt Ends and luckily a generous one. Deep garnet in the glass, still showing some youthful ruby hues on the rim. The nose feels like it's halfway there, as if there's 25 more years to go in this. A beautiful marriage of fresh fruit, oak and bottle aging notes. The body is full with so much energy remaining in it. Tannins are ripe, but not dusty like you would usually get in Bordeaux this old. The acidity is still kicking strong and is balanced perfectly with the alcohol. The tertiary notes really come out on the finish in the form of cigar box, fresh button mushrooms, smoked meat and dried red fruit. Amazing wine that will easily go for several more decades. If you think that this is at its peak, check your storing conditions.
