Community Tasting Note

  • madvitale Does not like this wine: 75 points

January 4, 2022 - There may have been something 'off' with this bottle, as when I opened it, the end of the cork had an odd, grey color and felt slimy. We decanted it for about 2 hours. The aroma seemed ok, but the flavor, if you could call it such, was acerbic at best. Not totally undrinkable, but little to recommend it. I waited several days, trying it again each day. No real change. I have one more bottle. Hopefully, that will be the experience I paid for.

1/4/22, 10:12 AM - There is a flawed bottle option that should be used instead of issuing a low rating like 75

1/4/22, 11:40 AM - I know that. Why I didn't is because it still had a bit of drinkability and I wanted the number to reflect my dissatisfaction with that.

2/3/22, 4:27 AM - I had the exact same experience. Strange grey cork with a bit of a funky aroma. Drinkable but not a typical BdM at the start. Took some air time.

6/3/22, 8:14 AM - Same issue here. Cork had an odd slimy greyish coating. Wine was certainly drinkable after decanting but retained a vague musty undertone which had me questioning whether it was truly flawed or needed more air. Overall, pretty unsatisfactory. On reading a bit online, it seems that this could have been Quercetin deposits - apparently a particular issue with Sangiovese and which explains why the wine was still broadly drinkable if somewhat muted. Would have expected a more obvious signal from TCA.
