  January 21, 2022 - Zinfandel icon Gus Gamba makes his version of a Southern Italian blend with a base of Petite Syrah, Zin and Primativo. This is the second vintage. California deliciousness combined with Vulture DOCG structure. Nice. Three hour decant for the complexity to emerge. Dark nearly opaque ruby red with lots of purple looks like a young wine but I think it's in its prime drinking window now. Black fruit plus herbs. It smells like espresso, eucalyptus and oak. The body is medium/full with a juicy texture, a touch of bitterness and tartness. Noticeable alcohol, a bit rough, the black berries and mouth-watering acidity save the day. The wine finishes long and nicely balanced. Food enhances the experience as Italian wines do best.
