    July 5, 2022 - Tasted after a 3 1/2 hour decant. With a plan to drink over 4 days.
Medium ruby in colour with a garnet hue.
Lovely aromas of sweet tobacco, floral & black fruit.
On the palate, medium bodied black fruit, black cherry kirsch/blackberry, leather, slightly floral, a noticeable petrol/tar undertone, high acidity, high slightly angular tannins with a long finish to pepper, tobacco/chocolate.
This is fantastic wine with infinite aging/improvement potential!

7/5/22, 6:24 PM - Great note! How was day one vs... day 2? BTW, coming to Canmore in August for a week. Love any suggestions you have for anything!

    Cheers!

7/8/22, 2:27 PM - chablis28 : sorry for delayed reply. Had lunch today with a friend who has a place in Canmore. We brainstormed and here’s suggestions.
Meals in Canmore Tapas is #1, also recommended Iron Goat & Murrieta's.
Golf courses, there’s multiple. Stewart Creek & Silvertip & the Canmore Muni. Nearby of course, Banff Springs & Kananaskis. Tough to get tee times, start now.
A walk along the Bow River in Canmore is lovely, and the Grassi Lakes hike is great.
Tons of hikes in Banff Park, recommended Johnson Canyon, Lake Louise Tea House & the Sunshine Gondola up to the alpine meadows, better be a nice day though.
Kananaskis hike recommended, Widow Maker Trail from Canoe Meadows.
    Have fun in Canmore!

Back to the Brunello. Night #2 tasted really good still, mostly black cherry kirsch & leather. Night #3 my palate was in no condition to evaluate.
The wine is very approachable on day #1 with a long decant. I bought 2 more bottles to age. Enjoy this wine!

7/9/22, 6:30 AM - CDT, thanks for the suggestions! Worth the wait!

"Meals in Canmore Tapas is #1, also recommended Iron Goat & Murrieta's." Looks like Tapas recently closed & reflagged as Sauvage which looks like an excellent choice too. I'm going to check in Sauvage, Iron Goat & Murrieta. All in our wheelhouse. We have a VRBO so will cook a couple nights too.

I'm a painfully bad golfer! So I'll pass on that idea :)

"A walk along the Bow River in Canmore is lovely, and the Grassi Lakes hike is great." This for sure! I'm going to bring along my fly rod too.

"Tons of hikes in Banff Park, recommended Johnson Canyon, Lake Louise Tea House & the Sunshine Gondola up to the alpine meadows, better be a nice day though." Can't wait to see both Moraine Lake and Lake Louise! Is the Gondola on the Lake Louise ski hill? Someone else suggested the Lake Louise ski hill for great birdseye views of the Lake.

"Kananaskis hike recommended, Widow Maker Trail from Canoe Meadows. Have fun in Canmore!" I'll check these hike out. Wouldn't mind a more challenging big hike 10 miles plus w/ serious elevation gain and a scramble or 2.

"Back to the Brunello. Night #2 tasted really good still, mostly black cherry kirsch & leather. Night #3 my palate was in no condition to evaluate. The wine is very approachable on day #1 with a long decant. I bought 2 more bottles to age. Enjoy this wine!" Thanks the further Il Poggione details. I've been trying to stay away from my assorted '16s based on the what the critics are sayings but I may open one of Il Poggione since it seems to drink earlier than some other producers.

    Thanks much!
