July 19, 2022 - After enjoying my first bottle a few weeks ago, I brought a second bottle to a friend’s for a steak dinner. I opened the Malartic a few hours before dinner and we decanted for an hour at his place. He opened a $100 2013 CA Cab that was very floral and nice before dinner. Once we started enjoying dinner, the Malartic won the night. It was a much more enjoyable wine with the steaks. Since the 2015 is available now, I’ll purchase a bottle this weekend and if it’s similar to the 2012, I’ll purchase 6. I highly recommend trying the wine, especially for the reasonable price. Cheers.

7/21/22, 2:17 PM - Many of the '12s from Bdx are really rocking now. Not surprised that it was the better 'food' wine. Great qpr with this one, for sure.

7/21/22, 2:19 PM - WGDM......the Bdx '12s are really going good right now. This one is probably closer to DDChevalier than SHL or HBailly. Generally, a little lighter in weight and class than those last two, IMO. It's very good qpr, though.

7/21/22, 2:42 PM - Mark…I only have St. Emilion in 2012 and they are drinking fine. I didn’t buy any Left Bank BDX in 12 or 13.

7/21/22, 2:54 PM - WG, I was primarily referencing the Right Bank, they are all humming it seems right now. Very approachable and well integrated for being so young. I have a few Left Bank but haven't had the courage to try one yet, maybe soon?

7/22/22, 2:10 PM - Thanks for the note! I am a fan of this producer and own several vintages including a few bottles of the 2012 in storage, I may have to pull them out.

7/22/22, 2:16 PM - Jeff Leve gives good scores to this wine so I need to buy a few. Reasonably priced too.

7/22/22, 3:33 PM - WQG...it is always a good buy considering how crazy things can get in Bdx with certain vintages. It's not a BIG wine, but it's very well made, IMO.

7/23/22, 2:11 PM - Lots of great comments here. Thanks for the info. WGDM, I have not tried the other wines and while I have the DD Chevalier, I have the more recent years. I'll ask around my local friends if they have any 2012s.

Sastewart: I will call out that with both recent bottles, the wine was much better with time open (including the next day on bottle 1), so maybe early in the overall window, but very enjoyable. I will keep my remaining for a few years from now. Great experience for me overall and I'll buy 6 '15s this weekend to hold.

Stay cool this weekend everyone. Surprisingly reasonable here in Norcal.

7/23/22, 4:13 PM - I only have about a case of 2012 right bank but 6 of those are 2012 Clos l'Église. Maybe I'll break that open soon and try one. The only 2012 I have had so far was Barde Haut which was also good but early in its window.

7/23/22, 6:32 PM - I haven't had that Right Banker, but, since you have 6 of them, I'd def try one, just check your decant time for it.
