Community Tasting Note

  • El_Dougo Does not like this wine: 86 points

August 21, 2022 - First time tasting this champagne since I began taking wine (and champagne seriously). I was disappointed in how one-dimensional I found it. Nose was simplistic, and palate gave off just basic citrus and little of the toastiness that one might hope for. Acid, however, was quite high.
If looking for a basic house champagne I personally would suggest the brut Roederer ahead of Veuve. You might even save yourself some money in the process. Happy for any thoughts on this.

8/21/22, 9:46 AM - There can be great variability in these bottles. They must make a gazillion of them, every year? Some are very good (90-92) some are just very basic (87-89). I've had aged bottles >5 years that have played both ways and I've had brand new bottles playout both ways too. I've had some that had a little toasty character and some completely devoid. None will have the toast of a Dom P or Tattinger. Nonetheless, it's a handy bottle to have around in case someone gets the urge for Champagne.....cheers!

ps....I get mine locally for $39/bottle so I don't fret when one doesn't pan out. None of the women around here who drink it seem to mind!

ps.....this one kinda is our house Champagne....we don't tend to drink much of it! Maybe an occasional splurge for a big event with a Dom P or Cristal but we can't afford those to be our 'house' Champagnes! I only wish!
