Flight 1 (5 notes)

White
2005 Gérard Boulay Sancerre Clos de Beaujeu France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
Perfumey nose that is complex and expressive with a pleasing greenish pine sap note. Concentrated sweet fruits but not in the sugary way with late acting acidity. This was terrific after 15 minutes of air. A Sancerre that shows fruit concentration that I rarely see from this grape. Excellent.
White
2008 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru La Forest France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Straw on the nose with notes of cream and smoke. The finish is very strong with stony acidity. The palate shows a bit jagged right now and needs to simmer down some. Needs a couple years in bottle to smooth out. Very good.
White
2007 Dr. Loosen Riesling Blue Slate Kabinett Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Nose of light diesel and sweet lime. Juicy palate with some effervescence and a bit of sugar. The finish seems clipped marring this some.
White
2007 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Domaine Sainte Claire Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Chablis
Tight nose with a touch of sulfur. Clean palate showing lemon and minerals. The length was real nice even if the fruit didn't stand up to the Dauvissat near by.
White
2006 Bodegas Naia Rueda Naiades Spain, Castilla y León, Rueda
Straw with a note of oxidation on the nose. Complex palate that is expressive towards the finish. Sweet tart in a pleasing way with strong acidity. The most expressive Verdejo I have had.

Flight 2 (5 notes)

Red
2007 Copain Pinot Noir Monument Tree USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley
Baking spices and notes of pine on a sweet fruited nose. Broad fruit but not extracted and lean feeling. Pomegranate, cranberry and cherry notes with some grip and juiciness. This was bigger than I expected and even had a tinge of heat. Got better becoming more integrated with air but still not as good as I have expected from recent Copains.
Red
2004 Melville Pinot Noir High Density USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
Ripe baked fruits on the nose showing notes of tomato, spice and grape/apple skins. Bit simple and lean feeling with some grip still. Not too big but uneven.
Red
2003 Patrick Lesec Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Bargeton France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Nose shows some rustic notes but more raisins and molasses. Big, broad and extracted with grippy tannins and some heat. A big full throttle CdP not for the traditionalist.
Red
2003 Pax Syrah Lauterbach Hill USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Lots of pepper on a ripe candy like nose. Thick with tons of tannin and simple expression.
Red
2005 Roar Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
This is drinking quite a bit better than my last go around a couple years back. It seems to have come to together nicely showing a balanced palate and a lightly spiced red fruited nose. Still on the big side of things but not clumsy or over done. Good stuff.
