Flight 1 (7 notes)

Red
2006 Terrazas de Los Andes Malbec Reserva Argentina, Mendoza
85 points
Reticient nose. Young and not showing a lot. Brite light red fruit. Minimal finish. Rated #7 out of eight.
Red
2006 Doña Paula Malbec Selección de Bodega Argentina, Mendoza, Lujan de Cuyo
86 points
Sweet vanilla oak on nose. Overripe fruit, with alcohol on finish. Controversial wine. Half the group liked it a lot, the other half hated it. My #8 out of eight. The group's #4.
Red
2007 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Argentina, Mendoza
90 points
Earth on the nose. Nice balance of medium weight fruit. Surprising structure for a wine this price. The group liked it much better than the '06 Catena Alta, which costs 3 times as much. #3 out of eight.
Red
2006 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Catena Alta Argentina, Mendoza
87 points
Green and unripe on the nose. Light red fruit which was nice, but an unpleasant menthol (probably the tart that others talk about) on the finish. #6 out of eight.
Red
2008 Dominio del Plata Malbec BenMarco Argentina, Mendoza
91 points
Smoky, rich fruit on nose. Pretty fruit, rounded tannins. Long finish. Great wine for the money. My #1, the group's #2 (out of eight)
Red
2008 Luca Malbec Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco
91 points
Big open dark fruits, blackberry and black plum. Oaky mocha finish, but much more integrated than the '07 Tikal, which is a sister project. #2 out of eight.
Red
2007 Tikal Malbec Amorio Argentina, Mendoza
88 points
Big, brambly, oaky and modern. Has not integrated .. not sure it ever will.
