Introduction

Dinner at Fabio's with Brandon and Denyce M. I was able to keep up with notes as long as I was sitting down and I didn't taste everything. What a great night and it goes without saying that EaD (insert it here).

Flight 1 (20 notes)

White
2005 Louis Latour Chassagne-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Nose of grapefruit, sea spray, and pear skin. Similar notes on the palate along with vanilla notes and a creamy mouthfeel. Medium high to high acidity.
Red
1988 Azienda Bricco Asili (Ceretto) Barbaresco Faset Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
Earthy nose, reminiscent of blue cheese, with forest floor notes and a beautiful rose petal component that really started to open up with some time in the glass. Red fruit and sour cherry on the palate with a bit of baking spice. Still showing big tannin structure and high acidity, that i don't think are going to go away with any amount of age. Long finish.
Red
2008 Coleman Nicole Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Nice nose. Strawberry, a hint of cola, and another component that I often get from gamay, but haven't figured out the right word to describe it yet (that's a good comparison). Similar notes on the palate. Lively with a touch of spice. Fine tannins, medium high acidity, medium long finish. Good stuff.
Red
2006 Sea Smoke Pinot Noir Southing USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
Cola and candied strawberry on the nose. Rich palate. Red fruit. Medium tannin and acid. Long finish.
Red
2005 Brewer-Clifton Pinot Noir Mount Carmel USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
Rich, jammy nose of black cherry cola. More dark fruit on the palate with notes of spice and licorice. Medium high acidity. Medium long finish. A big wine.
Red
2000 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Quick taste. Savory nose. Notes of cherry and coffee. Really nice stuff.
Red
1998 Le Salette Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Pergole Vece Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Quick taste. Grapey nose with hints of dark chocolate. Similar notes on palate.
Red
2004 Melka Métisse Jumping Goat USA, California, Napa Valley
Nose of black cherry cola and milk chocolate. Similar notes on the palate. Spicy, medium length finish. Medium high tannin and medium acidity.
Red

Red

Just had a quick taste of this one. Nose of black cherry, oak and spice. Similar notes on the palate with medium plus tannin.
Red
2004 Littorai Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Ripe red fruit and strawberry on the nose. Very ripe on the palate. Soft mouthfeel that gives was to medium to medium high tannin on the finish. A big wine that seems to have enough structure to contain itself.
Red
1999 Pietranera Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Savory nose with notes of cherry and fig. Rich on the palate with similar flavors. Medium high tannin and acid. Good stuff.
Red
1998 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Great nose: strawberry fruit with earthy, resin notes. More strawberry fruit on the palate with nice minerality, garrigue and pine resin. Medium acid, high tannin, long finish. Very nice wine.
Red
2001 Val di Suga Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Red
1999 Château Grand Mayne France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Very dark color in the glass. Rich nose of black cherry and black berry. A touch jammy. Similar notes on the palate. Focused ripe fruit. Medium tannin and acid.
Red
2008 Sojourn Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Spicy, candied red fruit on the nose. A bit hot. Soft mouthfeel with fine medium tannin, medium high acidity and medium finish.
Red
2005 Altamura Sangiovese USA, California, Napa Valley
Was juggling between glasses and only had a quick taste of this one. Rich nose of cherry and red currant. Similary palate. Medium high tannin and acidity.
White
2008 Cascina Degli Ulivi Filagnotti Italy, Piedmont, Vino da Tavola
Very funky "old world nose." Oily, spicy like hot red pepper flake, bouillon. Mineral and apple notes on the palate. Crisp mouthfeel with medium full body, high acidity and medium long finish. Nicely structured but the nose was a turn off for some at the tasting. As a side note I have some experience with Cascina Degli Ulivi and it is starting to seem to me that this producer has a fair amount of bottle variation.
