Introduction

Fantastic event with amazing food pairings from Charlie and Barbara Orlando. Took limited notes because we were having so much fun.

Flight 1 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Gosset Champagne Brut France, Champagne
90 points
From a Nebuchadnezzar

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
2007 DuMOL Chardonnay Isobel USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
93 points
Struck by the deep golden appearance. Pear on the nose. Pear and butter (others said butterscotch) on the palate. I thought no oak while others notice a hint of oak on the finish.
White
2004 Camille Giroud Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
89 points
I found this to be light and sweet. Enjoyable but nothing special. May have been due to the extreme contrast with the 2007 DuMOL Isobel in the same flight.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
2006 BOND Matriarch USA, California, Napa Valley
95 points
Deep rich aroma. Wonderful wine with incredible balance.
Red
2005 Araujo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley
95 points
Deep, rich aroma of currants and a hint of spice. Very well balanced with a continuation of the spice on the palate. Long, long finish. My WOTN although it tied with the 2006 Matriarch on a score basis.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
2000 Château La Conseillante France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
92 points
Red
2001 Pahlmeyer Merlot USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Red - Fortified
2000 Fonseca Porto Vintage Portugal, Douro, Porto
93 points
