Introduction

Tagging along with my wife on a business trip to NYC. Tonight I had dinner with Bill Lawrence, Michel Abood, and Leo Frokic (a.k.a. the Croatian Cuddler) at the Peking Duck House in NYC. Drew Skroback was at the restaurant at the same time and able to stop by and say hello as well.

We drank pretty much all Burgundy with lots of great baby-killing.

Flight 1 (1 note)

White
2006 Louis Jadot Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
A touch oaky at first but fresh and powerful with nice acidity. This drank very nicely throughout the evening.

Flight 2 (4 notes)

Along the way Drew Skroback dropped by with a bottle of 1999 Edmund Cornu and Fils 1er Cru of some sort, but we all forgot the vineyard. I loved it. Big funk and mushroom moving to a supple and round palate, gorgeously mature and supple. Drew, what was the vineyard? And thank you!

Red
2005 Louis Jadot Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Champ de Cour Château des Jacques France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Moulin-à-Vent
I rarely ever drink Beaujolais and almost no Cru Beaujolais, and this was a serious trip to the dark side. Slightly stern and forbidding at first, this opened up beautifully into a gorgeously crunchy, fresh and lovely wine with lovely hints of pine and raspberry. Really refreshing and fun; I could get addicted to these!

Red
2005 Frédéric Magnien Côte de Nuits Villages Coeur de Roches France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Nuits Villages
Sulky, reductive and very unforgiving at first, after about 90 minutes this relented and moved to a tangy, funky and fun wine with stinky pickle barrel and rhubarb on the nose and still slightly reductive but fun sour cherry on the palate.
Red
2006 Louis Jadot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Delicate and pretty, this had the misfortune to be poured next to the next wine in the lineup. I liked it, but it never really reached me as much as some of the other wines.
Red
2001 Domaine Dujac Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Oh wow, a "shoot me now" kind of nose, bursting cherries and dust, pure and explosive, just intoxicating. The palate is wound up with mineral funk, very dusty and dry and with swirling and work (and Peking duck!) the nobility slowly unfolds. Just wow. So pure.

Flight 3 (1 note)

And finally once we were done with all of the Burgundy we moved to the heathen (non-Burgundy) offering from me:

White - Off-dry
1990 Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile Vendanges Tardives France, Alsace
Exploding with funky diesel and smoke, this moves to a palate of pure mineral, steel and citrus with lots of richness and a hint of sweetness on the finish. While not really off-dry this wine proved an easy dessert unto itself. Really gorgeous.

Thanks guys for a warm and wonderful evening.
