Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
2000 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Cornas Domaine de Saint Pierre France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Opened and poured. Bright mid-ruby. Red fruits, slightly dusty and the slightest hint of rubber on the nose that seems to blow off. Grippy. Good acidity. Still pretty tight. This is more impressive than I was expecting somehow. The nose is a little smooth and creamy and a touch modern. Lacks the typicity and weight of fruit of the 95. Needs five years ***1/2
Red
1995 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Cornas Domaine de Saint Pierre France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Similar colour, nose a little muted with a slightly lactic quality. Opens up nicely. Proper Cornas here, nothing smoothed-over. Dark red fruit, lovely acidity. Iron and blood starting to come through. Needs
an hour or two in a decanter. ****
Red
1978 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Almost opaque, dull beetroot red with the sediment. Sweet-fruited nose, a touch of iron. The sediment gives it some grip. Good acidity, still there, just, but on the downslope. Not as good a a couple of bottles two years ago. Gorgeous nose though, starting to add beef, blood and a touch of spice to the rusty iron. **** nose but (*)**1/2 overall.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

Red
2000 Thierry Allemand Cornas Chaillot France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Dark, brooding, dense red with purple to the rim. Still chewy and youthful. Good typicity. Dense, earthy, iron, blood, acidity, tannin. It's all there. Lovely. Come back in five years. Far more youthful than previous bottle of this. ***(*)
Red
1999 Alain Voge Cornas Cuvée Vieilles Fontaines France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Dense ribena colour. Quite a modern, dark-red fruited nose with blackcurrant pastille coming through with some raspberry. Similar on palate. Reasonable attack and mid-palate, some acidity. Doesn't excite me though. Top ***
Red
1991 Marcel Juge Cornas Cuvée SC France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Lovely colour; light, bright garnet to ruby. Nose pases muster too. Very iron, blood and a touch of meat with a lovely sweetness of fruit. Positive attack, lovely grip, really attacks the sid eof one's tongue with its acidity. Good entry, falls away a little to the end of the mid-palate but this is about liongering flavour and acidity on the length rather than further development. A very good wine. One to contemplate across a whole bottle. ****

Flight 3 (3 notes)

Red
2001 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Deep, fleshy, slightly purple colour. Slightly lush, quite rich nose. A little sexed-up. Good grip, dense, dark red fruit. Needs another five to ten years. Fleshy and dense. Hopefully typicity will come through more as it ages. ***(*1/2)
Red
1994 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Slightly cloudy garnet to ruby. Nose similar to the 78 Jaboulet. very Cornas. A touch chewy. Quite high acidity. A good dose of roasted coffee/mocha coming through on the nose. ***1/2
Red
1989 Thierry Allemand Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Bright ruby. Really vibrant. Lovely nose, more burgundian than cornas. Surprisingly fat and leggy in the glass. Again, quite burgundian palate though more acidity and alcohol than burg. Seems to be getting more acidic. Doesn't quite live up to th einitial premise of the nose. ***

Flight 4 (3 notes)

Red
1991 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
flawed
Slightly cloudy, decent colour. Very tart and stripped. Hopefully this is corked.
Red
1990 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Full, slightly cloudy ruby. Nose slightly different to the other wines, less typicity, I wouldn't go as far as Bordeaux that some are suggesting, but it ain't Cornas. Positive atatck, dense, quite fleshy fruit and etxture. A little too dry for th efruit I think, but certainly very nice. A food wine. ***1/2
Red
1986 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Slightly rubbery element to the nose. Very stripped on the attack. Grippy. Think this is just dried out rather than corked, but possibly both. ** at best.
