Flight 1 (10 notes)

White
2005 Château Lynch-Bages Blanc de Lynch-Bages France, Bordeaux
91 points
Favorite of the Bordeaux tasting. On the nose, bananas, honey, a little petrol, oily, metallic. On the palate, bananas, tropical fruits, honey, creamy vanilla, medium acidity, great finish.
Red
2008 Reignac France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur
86 points
Least favorite of the Bordeaux tasting. Aromatically challenged. Hint of black cherries, black pepper, oak and hot on the nose. On the palate, very disjointed. Red berries, black cherries, and too much oak. Hot on the finish. Very high acidity and low tannins that and not enough fruit to balance this. Weak effort.
Red
2008 Esprit de Pavie France, Bordeaux
87 points
First vintage of this wine. Aromatically challenged. Hint of red berries and a little barnyard on the nose. On the palate, sour cherries, decent acidity, medium finish, very simple.
Red
2008 Hauts de Pontet-Canet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
88 points
On the nose, nice chalky minerality and red berries. On the palate, chalk, red cherries, oak, nice finish with solid tannin structure.
Red
2007 Haut de Poujeaux France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
89 points
Tons of barnyard on the nose. On the palate, black cherries, barnyard, long finish, great tannins.
Red
2004 Château Poujeaux France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc
89 points
Green bell pepper on the nose and palate which, although a sign of unripe grapes, I like quite a lot and does not overpower the bouquet. Also, black cherries and dark chocolate. On the palate, green bell pepper, black cherries, a little oak, super long finish, great tannin structure.
Red
2007 Château Smith Haut Lafitte France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
88 points
On the nose, coffee beans and cherries. On the palate, sour cherries, coffee, nice sweetness, disappointingly short finish, somewhat harsh tannins.
Red
2001 Château Malescot St. Exupéry France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
88 points
On the nose, cherries, hint of barnyard. On the palate, black cherries, nice chalky minerality, nice sweetness, medium finish, just ok for me.
Red
1999 Château Malescot St. Exupéry France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
88 points
On the nose, cassis, black cherries, espresso. On the palate, coffee beans, black cherries, medium finish, smooth and mellow. Probably won't get much better with more cellaring. Has developed secondary characteristics of an aged wine but lacking enough fruit to make this enjoyable.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2006 Château Doisy-Védrines France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
88 points
On the nose, honeysuckle, white flowers, bananas. On the palate, botrytis bomb, honeysuckle, very rich and creamy, medium finish. Where is the acidity on this? Cloying and very heavy with no appreciable acidity to balance the sugars.
