Introduction

Champagne Night.

Flight 1 - Sparkling Wines (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Freixenet Cava Brut Spain, Cava
The first bubbles of the evening and a good place to start. Lighter straight forward style. A refreshing drink.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Segura Viudas Cava Brut Reserva Spain, Cava
Second bottle of the evening. Had a little more weight than the Freixenet, I thought there were glimpses of oak. Again for the price, a nice bottle.

Flight 2 - Champagne (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Pol Roger Champagne Brut Réserve France, Champagne
Solid NV Champage, was at least 2 member's favourite of the evening. Not overly complex but well focused with some nice, subtle yeast aspects. Good crispness.
White - Sparkling
2002 Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut Vintage France, Champagne
Youthful and playful. The nose shows some complexity and more bread than the Pol Roger. Zippy nose and in the mouth but mid palate and finish faded rather quickly.

White - Sparkling
1992 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon France, Champagne
Showing good maturity, most people were thrown a little by this. Nose of coffee and caramel/singed sugar notes. Weaker effervescence than the others, with a solid acid and showing no sign of fatigue.

Flight 3 - Whites (2 notes)

The Acacia started the evening off. There was a Ruilly that was served as the first white after the Champagnes but I lost reference to what what it was (Sorry.)

White
2008 Acacia Chardonnay Carneros USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros
Prevalent notes of honey, hazelnut and maple. Would almost swear there was a bit of botrytis. Reminded me of a muscat. Very dessert wine in character but lighter in body. Very interesting.
White
2008 Domaine Hervé Azo Chablis France, Burgundy, Chablis
Not as good as the Ruilly, more one dimensional and a little sharper. avg QPR. 87.
