Lincoln Park Binny's

Introduction

I went with a friend to this tasting. This was his first time experiencing highend wines. He defineately got bitten by the wine bug after he tasted a few of these wines.

Flight 1 (8 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée France, Champagne
94 points
What a great refreshing champagne. Always a favorite of mine. I get apples/pears all day on this, along with yeast and ginger.
White - Sparkling
1998 Ruinart Champagne Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs France, Champagne
92 points
I had this after the krug MV. This wasn't as bright and fresh as the Krug but it had lovely bread and nuttyness to it, along with apple and pear notes. A great classic champagne that I really enjoyed. At this stage I would say it's still very young.
Red
2007 Lapostolle Clos Apalta Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley
91 points
Didn't think this wine was as good as all the hype behind it. Still a tight young wine which may improve over the next few years. Mouthfeel was smooth and silky I got lots of dark red fruits and vanilla.

2005 Bodega Numanthia Toro Numanthia Spain, Castilla y León, Toro

I was very impressed with this '05. Nice and open at this point. Nice aromas of cigar box, vanilla and tons of dark red fruits. Nicely balance with plenty of tannins present. liked better than the '07 tasted next to it.

Didn't like as much as the '05 I had next to this wine. Still so young of a wine, needs either more time in the cellar or more air time in the decanter. I could sense the heat/alcohol on this. I got floral notes along with vanilla, plums/blackberries and some minerals/earth as well. Nice wine just needs more time in my opinion.
Red
2006 Bodega Numanthia Toro Termanthia Spain, Castilla y León, Toro

After having Numanthia and couldn't believe how watered down that tasted compared to this concentrated MONSTER of a wine. Huge fruit on this wine but so silky. Just a outrageous nose of candied dark fruits, vanilla and floral undertones. On the palate "Explosion" of fruit but with some chocolate and really nice tannins. Very long finish.

2001 Château Cheval Blanc France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Typical Cheval class. Very elegant wine. I get forrest floor, cedar and dark fruits.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1995 Château d'Yquem France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
95 points
What a great bottle of Yquem. When I think about this wine I can still taste it. Gorgeous nose of caramel, petrol notes and herbs. In the mouth this wine really shined. Great honey and apricot on the palate. The finish on this lasted forever.
