Saturdays at One - Volume 50

Tasted May 29, 2011 by wineismylife with 585 views

Introduction

The Saturdays at One group got together on Sunday this past Sunday to do a double blind tasting. Everybody brought one or two bottles to share with the group. All bottles were brought to the venue in a bag. Each person removed their foil caps and corks. Bottles were taken to an adjoining room and re-bagged in new bags by somebody not participating in the tasting. Here are the results:

Flight 1 (8 notes)

Tasted double blind.

Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose started with a little barnyard followed by flowers, mixed dark fruits and wet stones. Flavors of berries, a bit of cherries and minerals. Medium acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Drink over the short term.

My guess was a 2007 California Pinot Noir North Coast. Man did I blow it.
Red
2000 Château Faugères France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
91 points
WIML91-92

Tasted double blind.

Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of thistle, plums and dark berries. Flavors of black berries and black cherries. Medium to bright acidity, medium to firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with some air or hold another 2 years and drink over the ensuing 5 years plus.

My guess was a 2007 California Cabernet Sauvignon. My first guess was the 2000 Faugeres (I brought it) but I change my guess once I tasted the next wine in the line up. So that begs a reminder of a statement I've made time and again...

NEVER CHANGE FROM YOUR INITIAL DECISION.
