Flight 1 (5 notes)

Red
2009 Domaine Robert Groffier Bourgogne France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
From half bottle at the Domaine. Bottled in December of 2010. Very pretty, darker red frut profile on the nose and palate. Nice spice throughout. Concentrated sweet fruits. Good acidity. Great grip and length for a Bourgogne level.
Red
2009 Domaine Robert Groffier Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
From half bottle at the Domaine. Bottled in December of 2010. Concentrated, sweet dark berry fruit on the nose. Bit of tobacco leaf on the nose and some bitter chocolate notes. Palate was not as powerful as I expected, but still had some nice density. A touch of rough acidity on the moderate finish. At this point I enjoyed the nose much more than the palate, but judging from the rest of the line up, I'm sure it will come around.
Red
2009 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
From half bottle at the Domaine. Bottled in December of 2010. Very dark red and black fruit profile on the nose and palate. Great texture. Great mineral qualities again, both on the nose and all throughout the palate. Gripping, moderate length finish. Very nice wine.
Red
2009 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
From half bottle at the Domaine. Bottled in December of 2010. Sweet concentrated fruits, yet still somewhat firm at the same time. Sweet spices intermixed with the very dark red, almost black fruits. Crushed stone notes. Has a creaminess to the palate with a good deal of grip on the long finish. Firm mineral streak running through it. Refreshing acidity.
Red
2009 Domaine Robert Groffier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
From half bottle at the Domaine. Bottled in December of 2010. Very expressive, forward nose of dark fruit, savory herbs and game. Crushed rocks. Purple flower component. Dark berries on the palate as well, with some coffee bean and bitter chocolate. Firm mineral backbone. Great acidity and a long textured finish. Fantastic.

Flight 2 (1 note)

Nicolas Groffier kept comparing the 2009 vintage to 1999 in terms of freshness and ripeness of fruit, so when he asked me what older vintage we wanted to try, I naturally said 1999. Great choice...

Red
1999 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Hauts-Doix France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
From bottle at the Domaine. Nicolas stated that this wine has not changed since the last time he had it 6 years ago. Concentrated, crushed dark berries and spice on the nose. A bit of earth and some red rose petals. A touch of orange peel in the background. Exceptional balance and great acidity. Very youthful. Had we not requested to try something from this vintage, I would have thought something much younger.
