Flight 1 (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
2002 Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Fiacre France, Champagne
Slightly oxidative nose, with a bit of dewy honeyed richness to the style. Very nice.
White - Sparkling
2008 Roses de Jeanne / Cédric Bouchard Champagne Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules France, Champagne
92 points
More restrained, less unctuous than the Chartogne-Taillet Fiacre 02 tasted alongside it. Fresh, balanced - I prefer this to the Fiacre. Not scored at the time, but 92+ from memory.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
2004 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Served double blind, my first guess is white burgundy, but it is not obviously so. I consider whether it is chardonnay from elsewhere, or even some other variety. Very nice wine, and after the reveal, it all makes sense. Showing well, for those who are concerned with any vintage related flaws on the 04 whites.
White
2008 Rhys Chardonnay Alpine Vineyard USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
93 points
Tasted double blind, this definitely seems to be chardonnay, with lots of smoky oak on the nose. I guess that it is a young Batard- or Chevalier-Montrachet. It turns out to be a Rhys chard, which I have never tasted because I'm not allocated this wine yet. I am mighty impressed. On the palate, this is rich and pleasing, with underlying acid to balance it and a touch of mineral earthiness. Never wishlisted this before because I'm not that big a chardonnay guy to spend over $50 for a chard I've never tasted, but that changes now. One of the best I've had from California; will be fascinating to see how it ages; I expect to like it even more when it's a bit leaner. 92-93+

Red
2007 Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée 3.14 France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon
Tasted double blind. Has some exotic spice on the nose that makes me think of Northern Rhone, maybe Cote-Rotie, but the palate doesn't bear this out. Spicier than the other two wines in the flight, which are more obviously beaujolais, so it stood to reason to guess this as bojo. The extra power and spice could perhaps be attributed to vintage, as this was from the vaunted 07 vintage and the two others from 2010. Smooth and tasty, this was one of the most likeable beaujolais I've had.
Red
2010 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette Cuvée Tardive France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Fleurie
Tasted double blind; pretty obviously a beaujolais; more specific notes not kept.
Red
2010 Domaine des Terres Dorées (Jean-Paul Brun) Morgon France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon
Tasted double blind, showed a lot of beaujolais typicity.

Flight 4 (3 notes)

Red
2001 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
93 points
Lovely nose, with power and dark, brooding fruit, and Burgundian earth. Tasted double blind, the power made me guess this was a Gevrey. Was glad to hear the reveal as this is a wine I buy in whatever vintages I can. This continued to evolve aromatically throughout the evening, and grew smoother on the palate. By the end of the night, this was perfectly silken and right in the wheelhouse for prime drinking, and still surprisingly powerful for a Chambolle. Glorious, especially for a village burg, and my WOTN. 93
Red
2001 Arcadian Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
92 points
Pretty, aromatic strawberry fruit highlights the appealing nose. Although this also smelled like Burgundy the way the other two wines in the flight did, a certain extra ripeness to the fruit made me think California. With some very specific hints from our host, I guessed what this wine was. This wine continues to perform admirably, consistent with prior raves. 92-93
Red
2001 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Tasting this double blind, this definitely seemed to be Burgundy, but I didn't have a more specific guess. I was surprised to find out these were all the same vintage, as this wine seemed quite a bit older, with some visible bricking in the color immediately upon pouring. It was also lighter on the palate and seemed a little flat by comparison to the Roumier and the Arcadian Garys'.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Red
2006 Cabot Vineyards Syrah Aria's USA, California, North Coast, Humboldt County
Served double blind, the first thing I noticed was a ripe, alcoholic nose. The fruitiness, together with peppery spice, made me guess California, Rhone varieties. Just for the heck of it, I guessed SQN or Saxum. Liked this but didn't love it.
Red
2001 Bernard Faurie St. Joseph Vieilles Vignes France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph
Double blind. Dark, earthy, herby. Guessed Northern Rhone. Liked this better than the Cabot poured with it, by a hair.

Flight 6 (1 note)

White - Sweet/Dessert
1985 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux Le Mont France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray
White flowers on the nose, this is surprisingly young tasting given the age. I guessed a Pinon Vouvray, but that's as close as I got. Tasty, this is great for those wanting a lighter dessert wine with a residual sugar level that's not over the top.
