Red
2009 Hartford / Hartford Court Zinfandel Old Vine Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Decanted for 2hrs 12hrs prior then returned to bottle. Very ripe profile, almost raisiny dark fruit, with charcoal. Palate still very ripe, but surprisingly amount of acidity and freshness (though this dissipated with air), that really coats the palate. Shows licorice, currants, and dried fruit with a dark profile. Finished with a roasted coffee, toast, and dark fruits. Faded some with air, but overall with enough acidity to balance the fruit, but the fruit flavors seemed just a touch over ripe and raisiny. 89-91
Red
2009 Carlisle Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley
94 points
Decanted for 2hrs 12hrs prior then returned to bottle. Shy nose with roasted coffee, cassis, raspberry, and with a floral component of violets and roses. Concentrated palate with fine tannic structure, and purple styled smooth fruit. Hangs on the palate for a LONG time, adding some briary fruit and hint of toast. Massively concentrated, seamless and sophisticated. Needs many years to unwind. My WOTN 93-95
White
2009 Turley The White Coat USA, California
90 points
A nice Rhone white, with peach, pear, and apricot nose(honeysuckle?). Palate is crisp enough, with a waxy mouth feel and ripe white fruit flavors. Finishes crisply enough, with a mineral tone. Good.
Red
2007 Turley Zinfandel Cedarman USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain
92 points
Unique nose with spice box and cedar, with a nutty undertone with dark fruit. Palate is round and mouth coating, dark briary fruit profile and more spice. Great purity to the fruit. Medium finish. I get a feeling of terrior from this. Group's WOTN 91-93.
Red
2000 A. Rafanelli Zinfandel USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley
90 points
Initially served blind, and it took me a while to come back to this being a Zin. Mature nose, with leather, cedar spice, roasted/dried darker fruits. Boysenberry on the palate with some raspberry highlights, hints of spice and leather, mature but fresh. Long finish, balanced. Low acidity that coats the mouth. Drinking well now, but won’t fade anytime soon—doubt it will improve. Classic balanced refined style.
Red
2004 Martinelli Zinfandel Jackass Hill USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
92 points
Surprised, as I usually find wine’s with this amount of alcohol unbalanced and hot. I only found heat in this as it warmed up to outdoor temp, which was over 80. High toned and noticeably high alcohol nose (like you might get some a Marcassin Pinot or chard) but no heat, floral component, spicy, with vanilla. Palate is smooth and round. Quite good 90-93
Red
2008 Michael-David Vineyards Zinfandel Earthquake USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi
86 points
Wow this is trying hard. Hughe ripe boysenberry nose with sweet oak influence. Strong oak on the palate, quite sweet—and I suspect residual surgar, with a lengthy if tiring finish of vanilla, toast, charcoal, and currants. Overdone. 85-87.
Red
2006 Davis Family Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
92 points
Unique nose of leafy herbs, spice, cinnamon, dark dried fruits, touch of heat, and dried fruits. Palate is restrained, dried dark fruits, and cinnamon. Medium finish with a little cola. Would never guess zin blind. 91-93
Red
2007 Storybook Mountain Vineyards Zinfandel Mayacamas Range USA, California, Napa Valley
91 points
Big ripe fruit filled nose with currants, boysenberry, wild berry, and cassis. Pure fruit filled palate, mostly berries and red fruits, nice acidity, though coats the mouth despite being somewhat restrained. Medium finish. Overshadowed some this time. 90-92
Red
2007 Ledson Zinfandel Bertetta Vineyard Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
90 points
Some heat and spice and cocoa on the nose. Dark fruits, mocha, currants and plum on the palate. Nice, though overshadowed with stiff competition. 89-91

Closing

Great tasting overall, with very uniform quality. Fantastic tasting lineup, with 4 or 5 wines tying for 2nd place and Turley the WOTN.
