Introduction

Hosted by Knightsbridge Wine Shoppe at Boka with Bernard de Laage. Great event!

Flight 1 (1 note)

White
2004 Château Laville Haut-Brion Blanc France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Somewhat muted nose. Mineral and light chalk/citrus. Clean flavors. Mineral driven, with plenty of backbone. Weighty texture. Needs lots of time, and less open then the last time I had this.

Flight 2 (1 note)

Red
1984 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Light red fruits and earth. In decline and with less framing and structure, but still offering classic Palmer elements. Surprisingly enjoyable.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

Red
1989 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Still dark berry, chocolate, and cedar/tobacco notes, but in a great place with exceptional balance and youthful verve. Fine structure and a velvety mouthfeel. Great Palmer.
Red
2000 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Bold while still offering characteristic femininity. Berry and chocolate notes. Fine tannins. Just great balance despite its youth. Lot of resemblance to the '89. Gorgeous wine.
Red
1998 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Forward, and a bit top heavy. Classic notes up front but a bit of a hole in the middle and without characteristic, soft textural elements. Enjoyable but not a great Palmer and probably better near term.

Flight 4 (3 notes)

Red
1966 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Softened. Dark fruits remain in the forefront, and some relatively ripe, lush flavors. Structural elements secondary. Tobacco nuance. A very good '66
Red
1976 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Top heavy, and somewhat overripe brandied cherry fruit. Sweet. A bit hollow in the middle. Past its best. OK
Red
1986 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Very young, dark, with purple fruits and characteristic (vintage rather than wine) aggressive, hard tannins. Classic flavors but still very, very primary. Great raw materials but hard to say how long this may take.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Red
2001 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Refined, softer, and medium bodied. Nice mouthfeel and frame. Feminine. Will mature early, but should be very nice.
Red
2004 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Dense, dark, tannic wine. Uncharacteristically bold and grainy for Palmer. Very young.

Flight 6 (3 notes)

Red
1971 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Classy, medium bodied wine but with an underlying power. Earth driven tobacco and cedar notes. Mature, with great balance. Feminine. Very good Palmer.
Red
1983 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Great forefront tobacco notes framing black cherry fruits. Early in maturity. Great balance and mouthfeel, and tamed a bit by age. Feminine. Wonderful texture. Really good.
Red
1955 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Soft dark fruits, with good balance and fine, caressing texture. Medium bodied. Mature. Earthy with mushroom notes. Very nice.
