Introduction

Binny's always puts on a great event, this one in particular was very well done. Our guest of honor was Bruno Borie of Ducru Beaucaillou. Bruno was fun to listen to and I came away with a better understanding and appreciation for his wines.

Bruno seemed not to fond of wine critics as a whole two of them in particular... his notable quotes are below.
Quote of the night
A guy asked Bruno to characterize Robert Parker's palate, Bruno stated, "Parker likes big boobs and fat lips" Bruno Borie

He also made a comment about James Suckling, "Suckling is a little snobbish...a little too snobbish."

Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
2008 Château Lalande-Borie France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
85 points
Dark cherries, raspberries, oak, chocolate, floral almost rose petal like note on the nose. On the palate I got dark berries, cedar/forest floor, smooth mouth feel, very dry and astringent tannins, medium-bodied. Short finish with alittle heat on the backend.
85pts. Drink now

Better nose than the Lalande-Borie, cigar box, lead pencil intermixed with dark berries. Lots of dark fruits on the palate (plums, cherries) along with cedar, forest floor. Smooth round tannins.

Nice nose of cedar, chocolate, espresso/coffee grounds and some spicyness. Nice enjoyable wine, round and supple, much more giving than the '08. Can be drunk now with a nice decant. Smooth tannins dark fruits and again I got some heat on the backend.

Wow, what a nose on this, mocha and coffee for days. Palate not as concentrated as the '05, some heat detected and suffered in comparison. Dark fruits, almost a mushroom note along with earthyness.

Great open nose, very floral , tobacco, ripe dark fruit. Palate was very supple, round smooth/velvety tannins. Great purity of fruit, just a fabulous '05, not as great as the '05 Cos I had, but great in its own right. Still a very young wine with tons of upside potential here.
