Introduction

Had several friends over tonight for some wine and tapas. The reds showed really well tonight and they were all on thier game.

Flight 1 - Whites (4 notes)

White
2007 Prager Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Achleiten Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

What a nice GV. Peachy lemons and spring flowers on the nose. Lemon custard with just a hint pepper on the back end.
White
2009 TOR Chardonnay Durell Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
90 points
The nose is a little retracent. Creamy vanilla oak in the middle. A little too much oak for my taste.
White
2009 A.J. Adam Hofberg Riesling Kabinett Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
91 points
Apple, stone fruits, papaya in a stout frame of off dry sweetness. I'm beginning to agree with others that this will best be enjoyed in it's youth.
White
2009 Paul Lato Chardonnay le Souvenir Sierra Madre Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley
94 points
Lovely fruit in this wine. Pineapple, lemon, lychee, almonds with a faint but welcome touch of vanilla oak. Solid acidity which should give this some endurance. A real winner.

Flight 2 - Rhones (3 notes)

Red
2007 Booker Vineyard Vertigo 28 USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles
94 points
Solid dark berry fruits suspended in a spicey, cinnamon oak frame. Yummy.
Red
2006 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
95 points
I love the nose on this wine because it always gives you something new. Blackberries, boysenberry, rose hips, black cherries, coriander, cardamom. Solid acidity in the middle gives it a light feeling.
Red
2005 Saxum James Berry Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles
95 points
Yummy as usual. Pure blackberry and blueberry fruit. This bottle showed no heat at all.
