Mekong Restaurant, Richmond, VA
Tasted August 2, 2006 by Michael Davis with 459 views
Introduction
Ben Andersen of Vinsanity "Crazy About French Wines" hosted this tasting event. It featured 13 French wines. 1 Champagne, 6 Whites and 6 Reds.
Flight 1 (5 notes)
White - Sparkling
N.V. Michel Turgy Champagne Grand Cru Réserve Selection Brut Blanc de Blancs
I'd had this before and enjoyed the return visit. Nice yeast and a little smoke on the nose. A good fresh feel in the mouth with a good mix of fruit and mineral.
White
2005 Domaine de la Louvetrie (Landron & Fils) Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie
Bias alert: I love Muscadet! This one shows yeast and chalk on the nose. On the palette this wine is very clean, dry and chalky. I love it. The acidity is just zippy enough without being too assertive.
White
2005 François Cazin (Le Petit Chambord) Cheverny
WHITE WINE OF THE NIGHT - A classic green Sauvignion Blanc nose. Cat pee and grass. However, the palette doesn't match the nose at all. This wine is very round, ripe and lush. Not too cloying...I loved it.
White
2004 Lucien Crochet Sancerre
A riper nose than the Cherverny we tasted before it. Tropical fruit and more than a little chalky. In fact, I might have said Muscadet if tasting blind. The palette show a nicely balanced wine with lemmon, apple and some zippy acid. A nice Sancerre, I'd try again.
White
2004 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre
Aromas of peach, green grass and wet stone. In the mouth this was dryer than the Lucian Crochet we tried before it. It is very minerally with some citrus and apple.

Thanks a lot Ben. A good time with some very good wine. I'm looking forward to your next event.
