TnT for dinner
Sonoma

Introduction
Had TnT over for dinner. They brought a terrific salumi platter, then on to French onion soup (yum!), green salad with persimmons and pomegranate seeds with a sherry vinegar and pomegranate molasses dressing, and we closed with Lindt chocolate bark with pistachios and red velvet cupcakes. A great time!
Flight 1 (6 notes)
Rosé
2010 Domaine Comte Abbatucci Faustine Rosé
flawed
Very pretty, light coral color. I immediately picked up just a touch of TCA, but it very quickly seemed to pick up steam. Pity, as this clearly had a lovely underlying character, but just couldn't get around the TCA.
White
2009 Pierre Gonon St. Joseph Blanc Les Oliviers
Well this was a "wow" wine! Rich and multi-layered nose of tropical fruit, which was matched on the palate, yet with a laser-like precision and mineral backbone which made this wine remarkable. Finishes long, crisp and clean. Lovely.
Red
2006 Domaine Bertheau (Pierre et François) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
All Bertheau, all Chambolle; not sure I need to say more, but I will. Obviously a mere shadow of what I expect this will become, it started off very muted on the nose, but quickly blossomed to show pretty red fruit, with the palate having a a tad more heft than I had expected, but still elegant and charming. Very nice wine.
Red
1999 Domaine Robert Groffier Bonnes Mares
Still a deep color, and the oak has been just about completely absorbed. Quite rich, with more black fruit than red, a fairly masculine wine, but without any heaviness. Satin texture, a rich and lush wine which really shows its pedigree. This shows no signs of going anywhere but up, and if I had another bottle I'd hold for at least five years. I know Groffier is often criticized for using too much oak, but this bottle was not showing it. Stellar.
Red
2004 Montes Syrah Folly La Finca de Apalta
TnT broke this out during dinner. Very dark color. Whoever said this wine is not over the top . . . well, uh . . . wow, I just don't know what to say. Very good dark fruit (lots of it), very nice oak (lots of it), with a good dollop of alcohol (lots of it). It actually all manages to balance out quite well, and it's nice in its style. Just not my cup of tea.
Red - Fortified
N.V. Château d'Arlay Macvin du Jura Vin de liqueur macvin
First time I've tried a macvin. Very interesting, for sure. The marc really comes through on the nose, but not in a spirity way, just the must shining through. Some sweetness, but not at all cloying. Nice red berry quality on the palate. Pretty good, but I'm not sure I'd buy more. Looking forward to trying the savagnin-based bottle next.
