Introduction

CAV tasting to send off the outgoing chairman in style!

Flight 1 (11 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Mondet Champagne Fût de Chêne France, Champagne
91 points
Served blind.
Golden colour, oak fermented which is instantly recognisable, which adds a softness, spices and lavender touch. A bit too much in my taste, however the fruit is present and excellent.
Red
1982 Château de la Vieille Tour Bordeaux Supérieur France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur
89 points
From double-magnum.
Darkred/brownish in the core with an orange core.
Good concentration on the nose of olives and saltiness. Initially a bit reminiscent of an old very concentrated Rioja. Dark fruit and completely smooth fruit. Tobacco.
Red
1976 Antoine Ogier Gigondas Grande Cuvée France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
91 points
Very confusing.
Darkbrown sherry-like colour.
Madeirarised and nutty and very sweet on the nose.
High acidity, nutty flavours, it really does pretend to be a sweet wine. Hard to believe this started out as a tannic red.
Red
1990 Librandi Gravello Italy, Calabria, Val di Neto
91 points
Still quite red colour, scent and taste of red orange and saltiness.
Red
1988 Lungarotti Torgiano Rubesco Riserva Vigna Monticchio Italy, Umbria, Torgiano
92 points
Dark red concentrated colour. Soft and lean fruit, good acidity and concentration, feels perfect right now!
Red
1985 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Fontalloro Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
92 points
From Magnum.
Dark red almost black in the middle. Initially closed down. Still has some tannins left. Very powerful, it has it all fruit and acidity to go. Will surely develop further for another 5-10 years.
Red
1975 Mastroberardino Taurasi Italy, Campania, Taurasi DOCG
92 points
Red core and brick on the edges.
Intriguing notes of leather.
Still some tannins left, excellent fruit and acidity. Will keep well another 10-15 years.
Red
1974 Antoniolo Gattinara Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Gattinara
92 points
Light red core with brick edges.
Very high acidity carrying the developed fruit. Wish I had some of this in my cellar!
Red
1979 Vietti Barolo Rocche Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
94 points
Very complex and tough! Notes of bitter almonds. Magnificiently built!
Red
1978 Travaglini Gattinara Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Gattinara
91 points
Served blind.
From Double-magnum.
Very developed with earthy notes. Very high acidity and pleasant fruit.
Red
1945 Carvalho, Ribeiro & Ferreira Bairrada Garrafeira Portugal, Beiras, Bairrada
94 points
Still quite red colour.
Nice earthy notes.
Extremely lean and velvety with lots of concentration. Perfect harmony and long aftertaste. What else?
