Flight 1 (6 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Ca' del Bosco Franciacorta Cuvée Prestige Brut Italy, Lombardia, Franciacorta DOCG
90 points
Fairly dark straw/gold with fast bubbling all over the volume. Citrus fruit, brioche and nutty aromatics reminiscent of champagne. Medium-bodied with balancing, yet moderate standards acidity. Long aftertaste.
Red
1995 Château Montus Madiran France, Southwest France, Madiran
89 points
Medium brick. Evolved nose with barnyard, undergrowth, cherry and herbs. Medium-bodied with silky tannins, declining fruit and balancing acidity. Med-long aftertaste. To drink-up.
White
2007 Château Montus Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh Sec France, Southwest France, Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh Sec
93 points
Medium yellow-gold. Tropical fruits, toastyness, honeysuckle and nicely integrated creamy oak on the nose. Reminiscent of a top new world chard. Full-bodied, creamy, with rich fruit, balancing acidity and a long aftertaste. Alcohol is 15% but perceived as much lower.
Red
2004 Tua Rita Giusto di Notri Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
94 points
Decanted for 5 hours. Youthful dark purple color. Complex and continuously evolving nose of earthy minerality, red cherry, cedar and spice. Obviously Touscan despite being made exclussively from Bordeaux varieties. Medium/full-bodied, still primary with firm tannins, vibrant fruit and high acidity. Very long aftertaste. Still youthful, will reach its peak in around 5 years. Very enjoyable, though.
Red
2001 Elio Altare Barolo Vigneto Arborina Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
93 points
Decanted for 5 hours, and I have to admit that it showed somewhat better after 2 hours in the decanter than when served! Medium garnet with a lovely Barolo nose of violets, red cherries, minerality, roses and obvious VA. Medium-bodied with massive tannins of good quality, fresh cherry fruit, balancing acidity and a long aftertaste. Long aftertaste. Expected to improve over the next 5 years.
Red
2003 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District
96 points
A great bottle that was opened after we had another 5 different wines, hence it was not fully appreciated. Nevertheless everyone of us noticed how great it was. Luckily, there was one glass left, so I could taste it the morning after. Very dark, opaq/purple. An amazing combination of excellent new oak, ultra-pure blackberry fruit, sweet spice, coffee, mint and minerality, in a rare coexistence of skillful winemaking and terroir character. Full-bodied with ultra-rich, yet amazingly fresh fruit, massive but excellent tannins and a high acidity that offers balance and vibrancy to this blockbuster. Endless aftertaste. One of the 5 top wines I had in 2011.
