Introduction

To lazy to change the date for each wine but last week of December we got together for food and wine at Luis's house. All wines showed well and not many events the lowest score is a 93. As always with our group no corked wines. Wine of the night was the Smothers Brothers!

Flight 1 (7 notes)

White
2004 M. Chapoutier Hermitage Blanc Chante-Alouette France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
93 points
Wonderful wine with orange peel, wood, lemon, minerals, honey and floral notes. Complex and improved throughout the night especially at room temp. This should age for a decade more. 93-94.
Red
1999 Smothers Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon Remick Ridge Ranch USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley
94 points
Right out of the gate an amazing wine. A concentrated nose of oak, cherry, cassis, forest floor and spices. On the palate picked up a little green olive and mint. Solid over the course of the night but at the end got a little less concentrated so drink these now if you have any. A great find by RocknRoller.
Red
1997 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Trailside Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
93 points
Very drinkable now and I would not hold these anymore. Dried herbs, spices, floral and raspberries. Soft tannins and very little oak on the nose or palate. No way to guess Cali Cab on this one blind.
Red
2003 Bodega Numanthia Toro Numanthia Spain, Castilla y León, Toro
93 points
Dark in color. Cherry, spice, blueberries, and floral notes. Concentrated wine with a little heat that blew off over time. Should age another decade. Very nice balance of fruit and earth.
Red
2003 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
95 points
Loved this wine and should be improving over the next 20 years. Decanted 3 plus hours and showed cassis, bacon, minerals and minerals. Lengthy finish and firm tannins. There is a lot of potential here. Try again in five years. 95-97. My wine of the night.
Red
2005 Château Léoville Barton France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
94 points
Decanted the hell out of this one with six hours and eight times through the Vinturi. Certainly not prime drinking window but I wanted to try it now in case I want to buy more. Of all the wines sampled with the exception of the 03 Pichon this should improve greatly. Cherry, coffee beans, smoke, blueberries and earth. A lot there but not all showing now. Based on what I see I would certainly seeing this wine as a great buy at $100. 94- 96.

White - Sweet/Dessert
2005 Château Rieussec France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
94 points
Great finishing wine to the second best tasting of 2010. Golden color and features apricots, spice, chalk and peach. Nice combo of sweet and acid. Should improve with time but drinking great today!
