Introduction

Olivier Krug pours 6 of his wines

Flight 1 (6 notes)

White - Sparkling
1998 Krug Champagne Clos du Mesnil France, Champagne
92 points
My system (nose, mouth, finish) ++/, He poured this first. Definitely needs more time to fill out the mouth, nice acidity with himts of citrus and oak. 100% chardonnays are not usually my favorite but this one impress all the way thru.
"One parcel, one grape variety, one year"
White - Sparkling
1998 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut France, Champagne
92 points
My system (nose, mouth, finish) ++/, This was poured next to the 2000. 1998 was a warmer year with some heat spikes and the wine shows it. Bigger citrus and less mineral, a little bigger and fatter in the mouth than the 2000.
"Krug vintages, many parcels, 3 grape varieties, one year, at least 10 years in the cellar"
White - Sparkling
2000 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut France, Champagne
94 points
My system (nose, mouth, finish) +++, Poured with the 1998. Warmer year with no excess heat. Showing a great focus of acidity, framed by a little oak, floral and citrus notes. Needs more time to show full potential.
"Krug vintages, many parcels, 3 grape varieties, one year, at least 10 years in the cellar"
White - Sparkling
N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée France, Champagne
95 points
My system (nose, mouth, finish) +++, Not sure the serial number on the bottle poured, they are now labeling so that you can look up blends and disgorgement dates via the website. Quite rich and full in the mouth, great depth and finish. Only wish I would have had some food to try it with. This represents exactly what I think of when I think Krug, rich opulent with a touch of oak. I have had this wine a few times and am looking forward to getting some more for the cellar and comparing wines with different blends and disgorgement dates via the serial number.
"More than 100 parcels, 3 grape varieties, up to 7 to 10 vintages"
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Rosé France, Champagne
96 points
My system (nose, mouth, finish) +++, I really love sparking rose and this one does not disappoint. Very light in color with a little perceptible tannin though the only one I did not get hints of oak on, which I liked about it. Small dark fruits, rose pedals, and a great vibrant acidity/minerality to carry the clean finish. Would have loved to enjoy a bottle with some light food.

White - Sparkling
1989 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut Collection France, Champagne
99 points
My system (nose, mouth, finish) +++, Hands down the best of the flight and my WOTY. Really shows what these wines can do with some time on them, even for a warm vintage with harvest on Sept 4th. Richer golden color, hint of brulee, huge mouth filling and lingering finish, not much perceptible oak. No need for food on this one just sit back and enjoy. Got a second glass later in the eve that made my knees weak, as close to perfect wine for my palate as I have ever had.
