Introduction

Once again we had a great offline with the gang from WS and a few regulars. We were less than planned but it turned out great, the number was just right, good discussions, great wines and great food, actually better than average.

Notes in the order served:

Flight 1 (11 notes)

White
2001 Château La Tour-Martillac Blanc France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
90 points
Clear golden yellow, nose of green apples, crisp fresh pears, with a light citrus scent. Nice fruits on the palate with a smooth mouth-feel, nice balance, medium length.
Red
2003 Château Phélan Ségur France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
89 points
Tasted blind:
Nice ruby red with a clear rim. Nose of raspberries, strawberries, a little leather and meat. Overall nice body and balance with acidity (Young) A slightly short and bitter finish.
PS: Disappointed after the bag came off, I expected more from this wine.
Red
2001 Château Lafleur-Gazin France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
90 points
Tasted blind:
Deep ruby red, almost opaque on the rim. Nose of fresh raspberries, freshly cut cedar, blackberries, prunes. On the palate, more prunes and fresh fruits. Good body but on the thin side. Medium length.
Red
2000 Amiral de Beychevelle France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Tasted blind:
Very deep ruby red, almost opaque throughout. Nose of ripe prunes, blackberries, horse (Wet leather) and cedar. Mixed fruits on the palate, short on body compared to nose. Well balanced acidity and tannins, would need a little more time, but overall very nice. Nice medium plus lenght.
Red
2000 Les Pagodes de Cos France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
89 points
Tasted blind:
This was a very dark ruby red. Closed nose at first, not opening much. Nose of prunes, blackberries and a bit of band-aid?. Same fruits on the palate, with a ok balance of acidity. Slightly disjointed. medium length.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Château La Rame Sainte Croix du Mont France, Bordeaux, Entre-Deux-Mers, Sainte Croix du Mont
88 points
Slightly amber yellow. Cristal clear. Nice nose of apricots and honey. Nice balance, simple. Short length. OK for the price.

Nice deep amberish-orange. Nose of quince, apricots, cooked tangerine. Great mouth-feel, glycerin and syrupy. Had a superb balance with a length to remember for a long time. I have some left, and going to get some more !!
Nice way to finish the evening.

Closing

Thanks to mimik for rushing out to get the Delesvaux on short notice (15 minutes before), good thing you live close to an SAQ !! Also thanks to C for the Ste Croix des Monts, it paired well with the fois gras. To all: The wines were great and the company even greater !!
I'm looking forward to the next offline soon.
